Does my travel insurance policy cover my property?

Personal effects and baggage – If, despite your due care and attention, your property should be lost or damaged during your trip, your policy will pay out the value of the item.

Our travel insurance covers single items to the value of £100 under an Economy policy, £150 under a Standard policy and £250 under a Premier policy and delayed baggage for £50 per day up to a maximum of £150 with a Standard & Premier policies.

Any loss or theft should be reported to the local police and the police report submitted to support any claim on your travel insurance policy.

Personal money – If, despite your due care and attention, your money should be lost or stolen during your trip, your policy will pay out. Economy & Standard policy holders are insured for the loss of up to £100 and Premier policy holders up to £250. Travel documents (travel & accomodation expenses, the cost of the passports its self is not covered) up to £150 for Standard policies £200 for Premier policies

If your travel insurance claim is for delay, loss or damage to personal belongings, money and passport, you must tell the relevant carrier about any delay, loss or damage to personal belongings, money and passport if they are being carried by any Carrier. You must also get a property irregularity report. If you do not tell the Carrier within three days of the event, we may not be able to pay your claim.

You must report immediately any loss or theft of money or passport or loss or theft of personal belongings to the police (and hotel management/embassy if this applies). You must also get an official written report. If you do not tell the police (and hotel management/embassy if this applies) within 24 hours of the event, we may not be able to pay your claim. If your baggage is damaged, lost or stolen whilst in the possession of the carrier then you will need to claim compensation from the carrier.

If you are taking higher value possessions away with you then you should check you have adequate cover under your home contents insurance.
